Eight Months Since Virginia Tech Tragedy:
Local Alumni Remember Through Music & Community

PORTLAND, OR — October 30, 2007 — Taking to heart the refrain, “We will prevail, we are Virginia Tech!” local alumni have joined Effesenden Music to present a memorable holiday benefit concert at Portland’s historic Old Church on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 8:00 p.m.  Concert proceeds will benefit the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund and the Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) Memorial Education Fund, directly reaching the families and honoring the victims of the April 16th tragedy.

Concert attendees will enjoy a candlelit evening of holiday music by Effesenden Music while building community with local Virginia Tech alumni and supporters.   Advance tickets are now on sale at www.effesenden.com ($20 adults, $8 students).  Attendees will have opportunity to make additional tax-deductible donations at the concert.  Remaining seats will be available on a first come first served basis.

Effesenden Music founder Wendy Goodwin, is married to Virginia Tech alumnus, Andy.  He graduated in 1996 with a degree in civil engineering and now works as an environmental engineer, addressing issues relating to salmon and hydropower.

The 8-piece holiday ensemble will blend classical elegance with bluegrass fiddle, latin rhythms and soaring melodies for an end result that news anchor Nancy Francis last year called “a soothing antidote to the holiday hubbub”.  This concert is presented as part of Effesenden’s 4th Annual Acoustic Christmas Series.  Founded in 2002 by the Oregon native, Effesenden Music got its start providing handcrafted music for weddings and events throughout Oregon and Washington. For a full listing of concerts, visit www.effesenden.com.

The Old Church is located at SW 11th & Clay along the streetcar line.  For ticket information visit www.effesenden.com.  To speak with Wendy Goodwin about the benefit, call 503.860.7688 or contact@effesenden.com.
